...... - Finally, there was one thing that was said that was really interesting just before the concert started. The Executive Director of the UT-Tyler, Cowan Center, Ms. Susan Thomae-Morphew, came out on stage before the concert to welcome the audience (there was likely less than 100 seats empty on Saturday night, a very full house) and during her remarks made a VERY interesting comment to the audience. She said that last spring (Spring of 2016), AFTER she had booked the Jackie Evancho concert, she received a telephone call from Donald Trump, who, she stated, "asked if it would be OK for Jackie to sing the National Anthem at his inauguration the day before the concert". I have contacted the Cowan Center and left a voice mail for Susan to call and confirm or modify what she said to the audience before the concert, so if she tells me something different, I will post and addendum in the future on this website with any correction. .....
At jackieevanchofans.proboards.com there is a comment from rlhamil To avoid further speculation, and with best wishes for all concerned, I emailed the Cowan Center executive director about the phone call story told at the concert intro, to clarify for those who weren't there to hear how it was told, whether it was a joke. She kindly replied, and with permission and as a service to all, that the speculation, fun as it may have been, may now end, herewith the answer: Dear Richard- Thank you for writing and for asking me directly. I was joking, and it was tongue in cheek. Many people laughed out loud, but perhaps some wanted it to be true. I asked Jackie and her dad if they were fine with me joking about it, and they said they were fine with it. Perhaps I should have told the audience, "to be clear, I was joking!" It has caused others to ask. I really thought that saying Mr. Trump called me in the spring, last year, would have tipped everyone off that I had to be joking. Jackie's fans are so wonderful, and it was one of the best performances on our stage in the 20-year history. Thank you for caring so much about her and for taking care to learn that it was teasing. Wish you could have been here. She is unbelievably awesome! All the best, Susan Texashoosier, I just want to ask you, if I can put your excellent review at jackieevanchofans.proboards.com too.

Credit: Colin classicalcrossover.proboards.com/post/17996 We were all planning to give Jackie a standing ovation when she walked out on stage, to acknowledge her performance at the inauguration. I was pleased that so many other people also joined in on the standing ovation. It is a bit of an awkward time for a standing ovation, so I wondered if anyone else would join in. Plenty of people did, that I could see up front. It didn't delay when Jackie started singing. She probably needed to keep in time with the computer. After the first song, Jackie mentioned that she was just in Washington DC, singing at the inauguration. That drew an immediate & loud cheer from the crowd, and many of us stood up once again. So we gave her 2 standing ovations at the beginning, to make sure that she knew that we fully supported her in that. Getting a standing ovation after just simply making that statement really surprised Jackie, and I have no doubt that she was really moved by that. In regards to the songs, Music of the Night just seems to somehow keep getting better & better, every time she sings it. I loved getting to hear her sing "Fix You" again. I was there for its debut in St Charles in October. It really is a great song, and I love how Jackie sings it. It seems appropriate that she sang it on this day, the same day that the Shibutani siblings won their 2nd straight national championship in ice dancing (their 1st one was skated to "Fix You" by Coldplay and was spectacular). "Caruso" was totally new to me, in every way. I have never heard it before, so to me, it's a Jackie original, and I loved it! The medley was as great as that first time that I heard it in St Charles. Corrected my earlier setlist, accidently left out MOTN (I was very sleepy then) 1. Pure Imagination 2. Made to Dream 3. Memories 4. Music of the Night Marriage of Figaro (instrumental) 5. Fix You 6. The Impossible Dream (D'Oh moment, wrong introduction) 7. Wonderful World 8. Nessun Dorma 9. Caruso (amazing! and thanks to those here for the correct spelling) 10. Over the Rainbow Carmen (instrumental) 11. Medley: OMBC, Con Te Partiro, Think of Me, Somewhere, When you wish upon a star, The Prayer 12. Writings on the Wall 13. Safe & Sound 14. Lovers 15. The Lords Prayer (encore) And, this was the dress she wore at the inauguration. However, she was wearing the heavy coat over it.
